PT Rekayasa Industri Maintaining Commitment Amid the Onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic

Creating stages of the work process so that it can continue according to the agreed commitment track, is indeed a common thing to put forward. However, it becomes quite a challenge if we are able to maintain this commitment in the midst of the ‘storm’ of the Covid-19 pandemic that is still hitting. As is well known, the outbreak of Covid-19 devastated almost all economic and business sectors, not only in Indonesia, but throughout the world.

Many companies have been affected by the pandemic that has spread widely in the past year, including PT Rekayasa Industri (Rekind). This state-owned Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) company strives to maintain its existence properly. The quality and rhythm of work is maintained, including in a number of national strategic projects undertaken by Rekind. Many hopes are planted so that these strategic projects can immediately operate optimally in order to meet national energy needs. Currently there are 3 national strategic projects that Rekind is involved in. For example, the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) project owned by PT Pertamina (Persero). There is also the Gas Processing Facility (GPF) Project for the Jambaran Tiung Biru Gas Unitation Field (JTB) which also belongs to PT Pertamina (Persero) and is managed by PT PEPC in Bodjonegoro, East Java, as well as the Lombok 2 x 50 MW Steam Power Plant (PLTU) Project. CFSPP, owned by PT PLN (Persero).

“In the current (pandemic) situation, it is not easy and there are many challenges to be faced. However, we are still trying to make all the projects carried out produce maximum and best results,” said President Director of Rekind Alex Dharma Balen.

Rekind, continued Alex, was born from the passion, hard work and best innovation of the nation’s children. Rekind is here to reduce dependence on foreign domination in project work (EPC) in the country. “History records, whatever conditions are faced by Rekind is still able to create the best works for the development of national development and progress,” he said.

As a form of maintaining its commitment in the Pandemic era like now, Rekind is trying not to be careless. Under the leadership of Alex Dharma Balen, a number of strict rules were enforced, including for employees who were directly involved in project activities. Together with the Directors of Rekind, he did not hesitate to go into the field to monitor the course of project activities, including observing measures to prevent Covid 19.

Everything is in the spotlight. Starting from health protocols, emphasizing the importance of clean living habits, to prioritizing work activities according to safe work methods and job safety analysis (JSA) according to the stages of work, do not escape monitoring.

Stages

The strictness of the stipulated commitment yields sweet results to taste. Strategic projects are able to go beyond the milestones (stages) that have been set. At the end of 2020, Rekind, who was part of the Joint Operation (JO) in the Balikpapan RDMP Project, completed 5 points of Tie In work for the Fire Water Line from approximately 150 Tie In which is the scope of OSBL work. Tie In is the work of connecting a series of new pipes that are installed with the existing pipes (old pipes). This work must be completed within the specified time because this is closely related to the operation of the existing plant.

In this project, JO’s work was focused on a number of aspects of the project. Among other things, processing residues (low value products) into high quality fuel and improving the quality of diesel / diesel fuel by reducing sulfur content, making it more environmentally friendly. In addition, to improve the quality of gasoline to be more environmentally friendly and produce high octane fuel oil (BBM). Through this JO, Rekind also succeeded in moving 2 boiler units with dimensions of 15m x 12m x 19m, according to the target and zero accidents. The boilers with a total weight of up to 400 tons are transported by multiaxel vehicles. Taking the journey from the Jetty (pier) to the erection point area 11 of the Pertamina Balikpapan Refinery, for approximately 2 hours.

“This process is not easy. It takes calculation, innovation and very mature synergy from all teams, especially us from Rekind. For Rekind, showing the best performance of all elements, from engineers to other supporters, is put forward. With this commitment and consistency, the completion of the project according to the agreed time can be realized well, “added Edy Sutrisman, SVP Corporate Secretary & Legal Rekind.

Previously, at the Lombok 2 x 50 MW CFSPP Steam Power Plant (PLTU) Project, Rekind also carried out the Lifting of Steam Drum Boiler Unit # 1. This progress is the first milstone for the Pressure Part Unit in the project which is located in the East of Lombok Island. Maintaining and building team commitment and cohesiveness is very much needed for the smooth running of the work process, especially in working on large projects, such as the PLTU Lombok CSFSP. Before the steam drum boiler lifting process was carried out, Rekind, through the Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) Team, coordinated intensely with the engineering team to ensure the installation structure, especially closely related to dimensional structure and non-destructive tests.

Steam Drum Boiler is one of a number of important components in supporting the performance of the PLTU. Its function is one of the components in a water pipe boiler which functions as a storage (reservoir) for a mixture of water and water vapor. In addition, the Steam Drum also functions to separate water vapor from water in the superheater steam formation process. The water supplied by the boiler feed water pump enters the boiler to the economiser and then enters the steam drum. From the steam drum, water is pumped by the boiler circulation pump to the raiser tube / wall tube to reach the saturation vapor phase.

From the raiser tube, the water returns to the steam drum. The components in the steam drum allow separation between water and water vapor, so that the water is pumped back to the raiser tube, while the steam will go to the superheater side of the boiler pipe. The saturated steam that enters the superheater pipes is further heated so that it can reach the superheater steam and meets the requirements to enter the steam turbine which supports the performance of the PLTU.
