An inspiring activity took place at the ROB 2 Building Lobby, PT Rekayasa Industri (Rekind) Head Office, Kalibata, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (May 6). A group of senior students and mentors from Surau College Indonesia (SCI)—a non-formal educational institution focused on character development, including for teenagers with special needs—conducted a business visit. The delegation was welcomed by Rekind’s SVP Corporate Secretary, Budi Adi Nugroho, and VP of CSR (TJSL), Herman Susatyo.
During the visit, the students, who are on the autism spectrum, learned about inclusive business practices at Mosaik Kopi, a coffee shop managed by youth with Down syndrome. Mosaik Kopi has been operating for two years under the guidance of Rekind’s CSR Team.
The SCI delegation had the opportunity to witness firsthand how children with special needs manage coffee shop operations. This included: selecting raw materials, concocting beverages, serving customers directly. The entire process is conducted under specialized supervision to ensure that service quality and consistency are maintained.
Beyond technical skills, the SCI group also delved into the fundamentals of business management. They observed and learned about responsibility, teamwork, and the importance of customer service. This program serves as evidence that, with the right approach, individuals with special needs are capable of growing and contributing productively.
Based in Bogor, SCI is a non-formal educational institution focused on Human Development and preparing students for overseas studies, particularly in Japan. This visit aligns with their specialized program for teenagers with special needs called AQSA (Al-Quran and Professional Academy). Through direct interaction and observation, SCI hopes to adopt the best practices demonstrated by Mosaik Kopi.
